Electropolymerization and doping/dedoping properties of polyaniline thin films as studied by electrochemical-surface plasmon spectroscopy and by the quartz crystal microbalance

چکیده
The electropolymerization and doping/dedoping properties of polyaniline ultrathin films on Au electrode surfaces were investigated by a combination of in situ electrochemical techniques, i.e., electrochemical surface plasmon spectroscopy (ESPR) and the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM). In the ESPR measurements, we employed two wavelengths, i.e., 632.8 and 1152 nm in order to distinguish independently the electrochromic behavior. In addition, we used spectroelectrochemical transmittance measurements in order to probe further the optical properties of the polymer films as a function of the applied potential. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant of the polyaniline thin film at several doping levels was determined quantitatively by taking into consideration the thickness values obtained from the EQCM measurement. The combination of these two techniques provides a powerful method for probing the electrical, optical, and dielectric properties of conjugated ultrathin polymer films. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Quartz crystal microbalance and spectroscopy measurements for acid doping in polyaniline films.
We investigated the doping of thin polyaniline (PANI) films, prepared by the chemical oxidation of aniline, with different acids. The initial step in the investigation is the preparation of PANI films from aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. This is followed by dedoping with ammonia to obtain a PANI base, which is subsequently doped with strong acids (e.g. hydrochloric, sulfuric, phosphoric and...

The electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) was used to study the electrosyntheses and electrochemical properties of two kinds of polyaniline (PANI)-thiol composite films in aqueous solutions, which were prepared by covalent binding of a thiol to the oxidized forms of PANI (PANI(post)-thiol, protocol A), and electropolymerization of aniline in the presence of a thiol (PANI(poly)-thio...

Well-ordered 2-D polyaniline (PAni) honeycomb films were produced by electropolymerization of aniline within the interstitial voids in assemblies of polystyrene (PS) nanospheres precoated with poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PDADMAC/PSS) thin shells, followed by the extraction of the PS cores with toluene. Depositing polyelectrolyte (PE) layers onto t...

The use of nanosphere lithography to construct two-dimensional arrays of polystyrene (PS) particles coated with multilayered polyelectrolyte (PE) shells and truncated eggshell structures composed of PE thin layers is reported. The truncated eggshell PE structures were produced by extraction of the PS particle cores with toluene. The core-extraction process ruptures the apex of the PE coating an...

Multilayer thin films of anionic gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and cationic phosphorus dendrimers were deposited on 3-(diethoxymethyl-silyl)propylamine (3-APDMES)-coated substrates using layerby-layer (LbL) assembly driven by electrostatic interactions. The growth of Au/dendrimer multilayers composed of AuNPs with diameters of 3 nm and 16 nm and dendrimer with 2 nm diameter was monitored by UV-vis...
